A play about youth, conflict, and sexuality.
Playwright Frank Wedekind’s controversial play, Spring Awakening, will be playing for a limited run of seven performances in Victoria from May 15-18. This late 19th-century tragicomedy, is an exploration of the turmoil experienced by a group of youth as they transition into adulthood. Reputed in the past for their challenging and stimulating productions, Spring Awakening is being staged by the Kate Rubin Theatre & Drama Studio’s Advanced Performance Group. The play, with its exploration of mature themes such as emerging sexuality, conflict with authority and the expectations of society, would be a challenge for any group of actors. The fact that this excellent production is created and acted by teenagers close in age to the characters they portray, makes for a powerful theatrical experience
